The “90’s Kid” nostalgia wave is so maddeningly ubiquitous that we allow stupid shit like this new Shaq Fu game to even have a hope of coming to fruition.
It’s already been done, so the novelty isn’t there anymore…so really what’s the point of this? Do people think it’s clever and quirky to…
Not a remake. It IS about making a cool new game that can have this kind of gimmick and still be GOOD. It’s one of their main directives.
So You Want To Do It Again?
No! Definitely not! There are two, and only two, similarities between our Shaq Fu, and the abomination that was born in the nineties: The name, and the starring character.
We are gamers, not executives. We know what’s good and we know what stinks. This isn’t about trying to make a quick buck, it’s about creating something that both we and Shaq can be proud of. We want to make a slick, fun, rock-solid game.
We’ve assembled a team of creative people who have this vision at the heart of what they do and we’re really excited about this.We want you to be a part of that excitement and a part of this awesome project.
Most celebrity games take a well known face and build a crappy game around it, knowing it will sell. We want to build a game that would kick ass even without Shaq. As the main character, however,Shaq, really wants to be a part of this and we love that he’s onboard. He’s going to have a huge involvement in this and he is not about to let the same mistake happen twice, and neither are we.
Barkley did it why can’t Shaq-Fu? Especially when it’s being made by people who have actual big game experience.
And yes people ARE paying money for an unfinished project. That’s how Kickstarter and Indiegogo work. They sell you an idea with no guarantee. But the ideas they’re selling are very strong and could, and obviously have, convinced people that this could be a GOOD hack ‘n’ slash game (Not fighting game contrary to all the people who are still parroting around the idea that it’s a direct sequel and misinforming everyone).
And hell, Double Fine made millions off of not much more than Tim Schafer saying “ADVENTURE GAME.” To make it even more hilarious they ran out of money and had to beg for more.
I’m thoroughly convinced if you just covered up every mention of Shaq and labeled it as something else people would love what they see. As an action/hack ‘n’ slash fan I’m very intrigued from what they’ve shown and are promising. I don’t back Kickstarters/Indiegogos personally but I’m looking forward to trying this out if it does happen to get made. Not out of nostalgia or some kind of 90s hipness but because it legitimately looks like they’re serious about delivering a game that could stand with or without Shaq’s involvement.
It’s still warm, a fucking nerd has been here recently.
